  7. Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations

“Life is like a box a chocolates, you never know what you are going to get” – One of my most favourite quotes is from the movie Forrest Gump.

Forrest Gump finds himself on unexpected roads all through out his life and I love that instead of being overwhelmed by each situation he makes the most of them.

When I became a teen mum, I never for once imagined this would be a road that I would have to journey on. I had the same dreams as many other young girls, I was going to finish high school, go to university, get married, have children and live a perfect life.

Sometimes we find ourselves on a road that is totally unexpected, yet one thing I have learnt is, that often these roads lead us to beautiful destinations.

When I graduated from high school I had no idea what direction I was heading in and it took me a long time before I figured out that I should actually go to university. No knowing what I was going to study, I called the university and asked them what course I could do with the OP that I got and surprising they said I could enter straight into Nursing as a mature age student (at the jokingly mature age of 18!!!)

Committing to university with a 1 year old was definitely one of the most difficult roads I have travelled on, with many ups and downs along the way. Yet with lots of perseverance (including many tears & wanting to quit at times) I dug deep and kept going. I surrounded myself with supportive people and focused on what I needed to get done; completing my studies.

I have spent the last 19 years working as a Registered Nurse and Midwife, and I’m extremely blessed to be able to work with many young women and their families.

Was the journey worth it? It sure was.

Some days I stop and have a quick look back at just how far I have come and I am very thankful that I stuck it out on the difficult road that lead me to a beautiful destination.

If you have a dream, don’t give up! Keep going until you see that dream come to past.

If the road you are on looks difficult, still keep going and remember that there is always light at the end of tunnel.

Your difficult road may just lead you to a beautiful destination that is far more amazing than you could have ever imagined or dreamed.
